Long time lurker, just recently registered. For several years, I've used trip reports and trail beta from this site to help me plan trips, and I thank you all for your contributions!
I did a lot of backpacking when I was younger, but got away from it for a few decades... then a new GF (now wife) wanted to try it, so we've gotten back into backpacking over the past 7 years.
I was born/raised in Utah (Midvale/Sandy area) and moved to Maryland/DC in 1987 for grad school. Took up [mild] whitewater canoeing/kayaking there in the mid-Atlantic; moved to Georgia (Atlanta area) in 2010.
We do a lot of backpacking (and kayaking!) here in the southern Appalachians, but we try to get out west at least 1-2 times per year to backpack in the Cascades / Olympics, Sawtooths / WhiteClouds, Tetons / YS / Winds / Beartooths, Snowmass / IndianPeaks / Weminuche, Sierras, Glacier / Canadian Rockies, etc. We've also done some southern Utah backpacking, and while we have enjoyed the desert, we are tree people and prefer the greener mountains, and forests.
We just got into mountain-biking recently...
We're also considering getting into packrafting, e.g., got a route we're fantasizing over in the Bighorn Crags, down Waterfall Creek to Middle Fork Salmon and out to Cache Bar. Also, hoping to do some combo routes in GS-Escalante. Thinking of some combo routes in Jasper / Robson / Wildmore too. We'll see - my wife prefers Class 2 or less, but she will go up to occasional Class 3 if it's short.
Anyway, that's me (and wife). Howdy from the deep south!
