Long time lurker, just recently registered. For several years, I've used trip reports and trail beta from this site to help me plan trips, and I thank you all for your contributions!

I did a lot of backpacking when I was younger, but got away from it for a few decades... then a new GF (now wife) wanted to try it, so we've gotten back into backpacking over the past 7 years.

I was born/raised in Utah (Midvale/Sandy area) and moved to Maryland/DC in 1987 for grad school. Took up [mild] whitewater canoeing/kayaking there in the mid-Atlantic; moved to Georgia (Atlanta area) in 2010.

We do a lot of backpacking (and kayaking!) here in the southern Appalachians, but we try to get out west at least 1-2 times per year to backpack in the Cascades / Olympics, Sawtooths / WhiteClouds, Tetons / YS / Winds / Beartooths, Snowmass / IndianPeaks / Weminuche, Sierras, Glacier / Canadian Rockies, etc. We've also done some southern Utah backpacking, and while we have enjoyed the desert, we are tree people and prefer the greener mountains, and forests.

We just got into mountain-biking recently...

We're also considering getting into packrafting, e.g., got a route we're fantasizing over in the Bighorn Crags, down Waterfall Creek to Middle Fork Salmon and out to Cache Bar. Also, hoping to do some combo routes in GS-Escalante. Thinking of some combo routes in Jasper / Robson / Wildmore too. We'll see - my wife prefers Class 2 or less, but she will go up to occasional Class 3 if it's short.

Anyway, that's me (and wife). Howdy from the deep south!

Although you've probably been lurking longer than I ever was, welcome! That Bighorn Crags trip sounds fantastic.

Welcome. Where do you WW kayak? We hit southeast TN a lot, some Smokies runs as well.
It would be cool to meet a fellow BCP member on the water in the southeast, probably a first!

Yep, that is me from Glacier chat forums (mostly just lurk) and NW-Hikers (mostly just lurk) and SummitPost (only lurk) etc. I should probably change my pseudonym from Langdon Greene to MostlyJustLurks.

@BJett: we have paddled various stretches of the Chattahoochee, Toccoa, Broad, Yahoola-Chestatee, Etowah, Chattooga, and some cypress swamp flatwater stuff at Congaree, George L Smith, Ebenezer Creek, and we're paddling Okefenokee in March for 3 days.

On our paddle agenda for the next few years: Nantahala, Coosawatee, Cullasaja (the easy part) Tusquittee/Hiawassee, Conasauga, Cartecay, more Chattooga, upper Amicalola (easy part), Mountaintown, Fightingtown, maybe a canoe-camping multi-day on Flint. Like I said, my wife prefers I-II, and will do occasional III- with coaxing, so we have to pick our segments to fit her comfort/abilities, but there is a ton to choose from down here. Fortunately, I took her rafting on the Pacuare (in Costa Rica) last summer, and despite her initial hesitancy/misgivings beforehand, she really loved that, and now I think she has caught the whitewater bug. :)
