November 15, 2014 – My friends and I decided to do the The Subway–the top-down approach. We thought, “It’ll be cold, but we’ll wear wetsuits and be fine.”

Yeah, that trip was fun and all, but it was really COLD!

In my personal opinion it wasn’t really worth doing the top-down approach in this cold weather…others may and will disagree. I had a blast, but the extra weight of the wetsuit for that long of a hike just didn’t seem worth it by the time I was done.

So, I’ll probably not do the top-down approach in the late fall or winter again…just my personal opinion on when to not hike The Subway in Zion National Park.

I've only hiked the Subway from the bottom up but it was during winter and I would NOT have wanted to swim.

It was awesome, but carrying the wetsuit that long was a pain.

Nice pics. And...brr! But still fun and adventurous , right? How many swims did you have? And were you cold the whole time after you got wet the first time?

It was great. We had about 4 swims (of course we had to do the swim under the arch). And once we were out, as in down in the classic Subway, we had kept dry clothes to change into.

I love the Subway when it's cold! I guess I'm one of the ones that thinks carrying a wetsuit all that way is a-okay! :)
Hahaha! and there is nothing wrong with that
