For Gearheads.... Hiking Pole Filter ?

The big question is filter cartridge replacement. The $160 price they are charging for a single aluminum pole/filter is the same as a pair of Black Diamond Distance Carbon Z poles. I have yet to break one after many years. Also, a pair of BD poles + a Sawyer Squeeze = 13 oz, 6 oz lighter than a single Purtrek pole/filter combo. I also wonder what the long-term effects are of weighting/flexing the filter assembly.

Nonetheless, I too question the long-term effects of added weight on one pole, the potential for breaking if a pole gets caught in a crack/between rocks, etc. and overall durability of something - particularly with something as important as water filtering.

I just don't see a Sawyer Squeeze with regular trekking poles as being all that inconvenient.
 
Yep, that's a gimmick. Plus, for trekking-pole tent users, you can't filter water if you've already set up your shelter.

Either a big spoon or a small trowel..... Either wouldn't work for one or the other....lol
