Flashlights, Lighters, and Multi-Tools

I can't speak for that brand but 200 lumen is pretty bight, plenty for camping. I have been moving over towards lights requiring 18650 Li-ion. The battery is a little pricey(~$15) but they can drive the lumen. I use them on my bikes for night riding. A single 18650 can drive a 1000 lumen light for an hour. I recommend the Redilast brand battery and the Pila charger. A lot of the stuff on the market is inferior Chinese crap. Dead cells, failed chargers etc. Below is a link to a tiny super bright light(400 lumen) that uses the 18650 battery. Cyclist use these on their helmets.

Cool light. I opted out because of the batteries. If I had more experience with 18650's and already had a rechargeable set I would have picked one of those up. Also, my wife would have said a few choice words if I spent more than $25 on yet another flashlight.

I wanted something that would work on rechargeable AA's or AAA's. I ended up getting the 226 lumen Mini Maglite Pro for @$25. I liked the candle feature that can double as a back country lantern if you unscrew the head. I can also use it as a head lamp with a strap or clip.

Yes, to charge a batterie isn't very comfortable in the field. But they have a 12 VDC charger in their portfolio.

...no comment. ;)

I just got myself a Fenix TK22. It has a 650 lumen high beam. It's like a spot light in your hand. I mostly use the light medium settings as the 15 lumens and 150 lumens. Takes two c123's or one 18650 battery. I suggest the 18650 in summer and the c123's for winter only because the c123's are frost resistant. $100 price tag though. Very much worth it if your looking good for a do all torch.

Fenix lights are by far the best. I am hoping to upgrade this fall when they have all the Black Friday sales.

The tk22 also has a 650 lumen stobe light feature. I like the it may work in an animal attack at night. Cats sure don't like it.

Along with my Petzel Tikka Plus2 headlamp I carry a single AA Fenix E11 (105 Lumens). The Fenix is really light and 105 lumens is plenty bright for me in the woods when I need a little more than a headlamp. I don't like the fact that I'm carrying different batteries for each, though.

I also bring a Black Diamond Orbit (4 AAA, 45 lumens—although the newer version I think is more) for when there is a fire ban and my friends and I want to have a little brandy and play some cards before turning in.

I might upgrade my headlamp to something that uses AA and leave the Orbit home so that I only need one battery type.

For around the house I'd love that 650 lumen Fenix but all I use now are rechargeable batteries—mainly Eneloop AA & AAA. I can't justify buying non-rechargeables anymore. Fenix makes a 4 AA 500 lumen light that is at the top of my list.

Black Diamond Icon is pretty bright and the battery lasts a long time. Its a nice balance of price, light and batt life. Fenix is very nice though.

Just a heads up for anyone in the market for a budget headlamp or down jacket. Walmart has a 150 lumen headlamp for $12. They also have a down jacket for $42. I picked up one of each. The quality appears to be quite good for the cost.

I picked up a Benchmade Mini Griptilian (forgive the goofy name) and I love it. I picked it up 2nd hand for $45. It is one of the best knives I have ever had.

I started using one of these cap lights, got this one for $7 with shipping, 0.6 oz. Small, light, and my hat is usually more comfortable than a headband. Not super bright, but enough for me. It wouldn't light way down the trail, but I could hike with it.

I am currently going the other direction. I am planning a mountaineering trip in GTNP and may pick up a Petzl NAO. This does look like a good camping option though.

I got a Zippo hand warmer the other day and like it for winter camping. I just put a little duct tape in it to keep the lid on and drop it in my bag (not recommended by Zippo btw). Anyone else use one?

Does anyone here have a zebralight? I'm thinking about getting one, but I was hoping to see one in person first.

Lumen Porn... here I thought I was the only one struggling. My wife just doesn't understand. Last night she caught me looking at the Fenix flashlights on Amazon again. Sigh.

On a lighter note I love my Black Diamond Icon headlamp, a bit pricey, but at 200 lumens it was one of the brightest ones I could find. Bonus points that it takes AA's and has great battery life. I have been looking for an insanely bright flashlight though, the more lights I have the safer I feel in the woods alone... it probably doesn't actually make it safer but it makes me feel better.

I just made my maiden gear purchase (noob) and a fenix pd35 flashlight was part of it. Based on this thread, it looks like I made the right choice. 850 max lumens should brighten things up.

That's a nice one. If you don't have rechargeable 18650 batteries and charger you will probably want some. My guess is that it burns through batteries quickly on high beam.

Thanks for the tip. I'll definitely put that on the list for my next order.

That is one of the best lights going. I want to buy it but am having a hard time justifying. I have too many lights(bike commuting) . be careful as some of the high powered Li-Ion powdered lights will "step" down in brightness to prevent overheating. Some of the lights on "low" can last hundreds of hours. Here is my post on bikeforums with link to candlepowerforums.

Hey commuters: I have been seeking the holy grail of lights. I am sure many of you have as well. I recently found on the Candlepowerforums a great little self contained super bright and not too expensive light. It is a Zebralight SC600 MKIIL2. I believe there are 3 models: the SC600, SC600II(L1???) and SC600 MKII L2. The main difference between the SC600 II and SC600 II MK-L2 is size and brightness. The MK L2 cost around $95, the other is between $65-75. The SC600 is no longer for sale and the SC600 II is being phased out.

Zebralight SC600 MKIIL2: 1100 lumen, 2 hrs. runtime, 4 in(101mm) long, 1 in.(25mm) wide, 78grams(w/out bat), single 18650 battery, beam is 80 degree spill, 10 degree hot spot, waterproof. I am seeking step-down info from CPF. If it is only temp driven this may be the real deal. Easy to pocket it when shopping, last really long for a single battery.

Here is their review:

I picked up a zebralights H52F Floody, and I'm not 100% sold on it. Construction is great, and it puts out good light, but the battery life isn't impressive, and I find it uncomfortable to wear. It'll be for sale soon.

I prefer my petzl tikka and my Fenix HL22.

Anyone want a like new zebralight at a discount?
