flash flooding summer 2022

“DEATH VALLEY NATIONAL PARK, Calif. — Record rainfall Friday trigged flash floods at Death Valley National Park that swept away cars, closed all roads and stranded hundreds of visitors and workers.”

And I thought like most of the Mojave they usually only received winter storm rainfall but it looks like they are getting some strong summer precipitation this year.

Carlsbad Caverns NP also closed with a shelter in place. There's a YouTube some guy took showing the flash flood crossing the road just behind him as he is driving out.

I have heard that Moab wants to have the business open by labor day, but the businesses don't know if they can do it.

Enjoying not choking on smoke blowing in from the n/nw, and everything is so green for August!

It's about a month old now, but here's a video of a flash flood at Arches, although I am drawing a blank as to where in the park this is.

wow. I've seen the slickrock running and the little pouroffs going, but I've never seen it angry like this.

an old hiking buddy of mine told of spending a week in Dark Canyon and having a flash go by that made the ground shake cause of rolling big boulder down the waterway

NWS has posted a bazillion of these today, seems pretty exciting out in the desert
We had a brief storm ~ a month ago with 0.5" hail stones. So far no major precip at my place at least during the last few t-storm cycles. The trails in Red Cliffs are trashed in spots from the summer flash floods. I'm working with the local BLM to hopefully organize a local trail maintenance event.

SE UT needs the rain.

Drove right thru this. The Monticello area got absolutely pummeled this afternoon too. Hardest rain I've ever seen in S UT.
Wonder if the lovely ditch that used to be HWY 211 to Needles just got more Grand Canyon-like.
