Grandaddy Lakes region has a 10000+ acre fire right now. They’ve evacuated the areas nearby which I think are mostly campers. I am in Glenwood Springs Colorado, and the smoke here is pretty thick as it’s coming straight for us.

Was up at Twin Lakes this morning and it was so bad we left.

I spent last night over by Baldy.
The wind really stoked up the fire and the smoke, but the prevailing wind always kept it just away from us.
Really windy, brittle dry, and even after the cold front passed during the night it was unseasonably warm.

The Yellow Lake Fire started on Sept 28, 2024 near Yellow Lake, east and south of Mill Hollow Reservoir on the Heber-Kamas Ranger District of the Uinta-Wasatch-Cache National Forest. It is burning in heavy timber, and dead-and-down timber.

Highway 35 is closed between Nobletts Trailhead and Wolf Creek Summit, for both public and firefighter safety. This closure will remain for at least 24-72 hours, until fire activity decreases and the road can be cleared of debris.
