Electric Peak - A Call For Help (Yellowstone)

Hello

I attempted Electric Peak in Yellowstone and came up short. I believed I needed to scale the red tower and then move up the wall, but when I rewatched videos after my attempt it seems that this spot is somehow avoided. I also read some vague guides that discussed going around the red fin.

This spot is after the big up section and after the horizontal crossing (where I stayed at the highest point of the mountain throughout). 2 pictures show the spot I was stuck at, and one shows what behind me looked like). This is NOT the final summit ascent, which I believe looks similar. This is before crossing the narrow spine that occurs just before the final ascent.

My recollection is that going right would lead to instant death due to a drop off, and left was less steep but the wall behind the red rock remained.

Anyone know how to navigate this?

Been a while ... I remember straight forward easy, no scrambling use trail. I think was a small saddle. Would be better if you had a GPS track to show
Ill look may have one.

It's been a while for me as well - I really need to do this one again. But if I remember correctly I think you're just past the small 'saddle' that @Bob mentions. You'd stay left (SW) of the ridge, then there is a fairly easy chute that brings you back up on top.

Credit to you for calling it a day and turning back when you felt uncomfortable - hard thing to do, but always the right decision.

I dont remember our route like Scat's pics........ but mine are from 2002.yellowstonehike 044.jpgyellowstonehike 053.jpgyellowstonehike 055.jpgScreenshot 2026-07-11 150612.jpg

Looks like it is up and over the red tower and find a scaleable spot on the wall to continue….I swear it looked impenetrable when I got up there but that could be a combination of inexperience and nerves kicking in at the moment. I’m quite certain Scatman’s 4th picture is the tower in question, and it looks like his group was climbing it.

So - follow-up question. I went Glen Creek to Summit. At the Summit intersection, I believe I could continue Sportsman Lake Trail and hit Electric Peak from the other side. Does anyone know if that route is simpler for a less experienced scrambling team? Just weighing options.
