It's only 3 miles from the Crystal Lake Trailhead and offers a nice variety of scenery, including a handful of nearby lakes with good fishing.

Like most of the lakes in this area, usage is heavy, especially on weekends during the summer, so don't expect solitude. Boy scout troops in particular seem to gravitate to this area on Friday nights. But if you catch it during the week, or in the off season, you might just have it to yourself.

I hiked to Duck Lake about 26 years ago and we started at Trial Lake, which is obviously very close to the Crystal Lake trailhead, and I do not remember going close to Crystal Lake. We went along Trial Lake, then to Wall Lake, then on up. It seems that some of the trails in this area have changed since I have been on them. I took a day trip to Wall Lake this summer and the trail was not the same one that I used in the past.
