Took a little day trip up to 11,000 feet, near Medicine Bow Peak, in search of golden trout. Haven’t caught one in 6 or 7 years, when I lived in the Wind River area. I’ve had a really bad golden trout itch and I needed to scratch it. These are one of few trout species that I truly marvel at. Absolutely stunning in their spawning colors. Not very big, but still a sight to behold. These fish were mightily picky. They were more focus on spawning, rather than eating. Out of the hundreds of fish that I saw, I only managed to get 8 or 9 to bite. Scuds and zebra midges were all they would take. A lot of the trail is still under snow or water, which can make things a little more challenging. One part of the trail in particular goes underneath a 15 foot high snow drift.

Wyoming never ceases to amaze me with its beautiful and dramatic landscape. Even saw a moose and many yellow-bellied marmots along the way. Also caught a bonus splake at another lake along the trail.
