Coyote Buttes South- New Daily Permit Process

I was going to test out the app this fall and apply for the wave walk-in from the east entrance of Zion (supposedly inside the geofence) but the timing never worked out. I'm curious if anyone has tried it from there?

Nice to have the option of applying on mobile phone but then you still have to drive to Kanab or Page to get the paper permit and the lecture.

Our casual approach to permits has been to drop by the in-person draw on a re-supply day in Kanab after camping in the area, get the permit (lucky all 3 times) and head out to the Sand Hills after we are done in town. I'm not familiar with how extensive cell coverage might be within the geofence, if camping well away from Kanab or Page.

I'm talking about the south Coyote buttes here, later in October when there were only about a dozen or so looking for permits, and early November last year when there were only 9 applying- everybody's a winner! We lucked out at Coyote North in October 2005 when the draw was held at the Paria contact station and there were only about 25 (how things have changed!). And yes, Jo's ancestry is Irish on her mother's side. One thing I wonder about with the new system is that when applying in person previously, we were always warned about the access situation, which maybe filtered some out before even applying. Now it looks like they will get that lecture after getting the permit?

I was at the Buckskin Trailhead in Oct with a friend to hike W Clark Bench, where unbeknownst to me, they now make you use their app to pay the permit fee (I brought cash). I couldn't get reception on Verizon; he could with AT&T.

The masses and the feds..... Continue to ruin most things ... But it's like that in most all things anymore
