RIP Chuck Devier. A kinder gentler soul never walked the planet. He will be missed.
In this day and age of Forums and Facebook, ChuckD, as we knew him at Backpacker.com, was the glue that helped hold our annual gathering ( Pickle Gulch) in Colorado together, where we actuality got to meet and greet, put real names and faces to computer avatars, and get out and hike.
Chuck was the meastro of camp cookery and single handedly could manage 3-4 Dutch Ovens at a time to feed our hungry army in the evening..
He was also a great Scoutmaster, passing on his skills and love of the outdoors to a new generation.
Unfortunately, he was killed 2 nights ago, while out with his scouts when a big storm toppled a tree on top of his tent.
I know it's just a platitude, and I wish he was still alive, but he died doing what he loved best....
