my son & I ... getting ready to go up and over the Chilkoot Pass ... we followed the red poles that the NPS had placed to mark the "trail". It was mostly a rock scramble to the pass.

remains of a boat frame ... the gold rushers attempted to float down the river on these hand made boats, most didn't make it very far.

Bennett Train Station ... we took the train back to Skagway from here (White Pass & Skagway RR). This is a tourist train & they sell one way tickets for hikers to return to Skagway since Bennett is a 5 mile hike to the highway. The RR put all of the hikers in one car away from the tourists.
It had rained fairly heavily from Bare Loon Lake to almost Bennett ... we were pretty soaked by the time we got there. Fortunately we had some dry clothes to change into for the ride back.

Great trip report. I've been in the area, but not done the hike. Thanks for all the pictures!

This is on the bucket list. - though I really doubt I'll get back to Alaska. I've been fascinated by this ever since I saw vintage photos of the 'Golden Staircase' with the long line of people carrying enormous loads up in the snow. I enjoyed looking at your pictures and reading the report.

I have read a lot of books on the history of that route. I would love to absorb myself in the ghosts. Thanks!!

It is amazing to see all the old "abandoned stuff" along the trail ... including the remains of machinery, boats, you name it. And then you get to Bennett with its old empty buildings. The old wooden church at Bennett is a sight to see & Parks Canada has it surrounded with fire suppression hardware to help prevent its loss to fire.

Stunning. I think I might have to add using that outhouse, to my bucket list.
Thanks for sharing!

I've been to the Seattle Unit of that park, now I've got to pony up and do that one too! Great TR.

It’s pretty incredible! I live here in Skagway year round! Wish I’d have made the connection while you were here!! Anybody that sees this and comes through feel free to PM me, always enjoy meeting like minded folks and would love to show folks around my neck of the woods! Here’s a few pics from around the Skagway area.

This one is in Dyea. Looking out where the old dock would have been back in the day. I actually proposed close to here last spring!

An alpine lake. Fireweed is abundant!

This is actually looking down on the Chilkoot. Looking from the East, facing west. Well above the trail.

Like I said, look me up if any of you come through!
