Sooooooo many of these caterpillars in Death Valley last week - all different sizes/instars - they're white-lined sphinx moths and the host plant we saw them on was brown-eyed primrose
Even being from Arizona, this makes me squeemish. I had a fear of spiders as a child and have mostly tamed it in regards to the size of spiders one might typically see. However, I never built up a tolerance to large spiders, especially not this big. Thankfully I'm mostly in my tent in the nighttime hours .
