There's a trail in the area that shares my name, so naturally I was obligated to hike it. Things lined up today with outstanding weather and a friend willing to do a vehicle shuttle, as this trail is a "point to point" one and neither of us felt like doing the whole thing twice in a day. Ends up about 10.5 miles as we did it. Measures vary but seems to be around 1500-1800 feet of elevation gain overall on the trail.
The first 4.2 miles are what they call the "Southern extension" and it's often more of a suggested route than a trail.
The extension is also quite hilly, but it does get you warmed up very quickly.
Some route finding required. We talked to somebody at the end of the trail who had tried this portion with a friend and lost the trail a few weeks earlier. We had to stop and look for trail markers a couple times but never lost the trail. We both also had GPS apps to reference.
Trusty Osprey day pack at the junction with the original Brent's Trail. According to the sign at this point we had hiked 4.2 miles and had 6.2 to go.
The trail follows the dirt road for maybe half a mile.
Ended up taking just under 4.5 hours to complete the trail. Pretty nice overall, I'd hike it again given the opportunity. Looks like it would be very brushy and overgrown in the summer, probably best hiked when it's not a growing season.
