Best Backpacking Near Phoenix/Scottsdale?

I have a work trip to Scottsdale in April and plan on staying a bit longer to get in a quick backpacking trip.

Does anyone have recommendations for a 2-3 night trip within 3-4 hours of Phoenix? Grand Canyon permits appear to be booked solid already for the corridor, but I've not researched other trips there.
