Bag Night Challenge 2019

Total Nights: 3

03/06/2019 - Hole In The Rock Road (1 Night)
05/25-27/2019 - Donnelly, ID (2 Nights)

I broke a few vertebrae a couple of weeks ago, so at the moment I'm very glad we purchased the Casita last year. It allowed us to still take a trip and give me a semi-comfortable bed to sleep on. I have to have another CT scan in August and the spine specialist thinks as long as I take it easy until then I should heal completely and hopefully be able to still get some backpacking/camping and biking in before the weather turns to crap.

Sorry to hear about the broken vertebrae. Take it easy and heal up quickly.

I spent the Memorial Day weekend walking a few canyons of Cedar Mesa.

No kiddin'?!?! Luck to you. I hope you weren't playing the Bag Game.

Good think you got the rig. We drove a similar RV, the egg we called it but really a Scamp, to Alaska and back for 6 weeks one time long, long ago....

We really like the little trailer. It is the casita freedom deluxe model, so basically designed for two people. I used the REI sale to order a low profile cot that I'm hoping combined with a sleeping pad will let me be able to sleep in a tent so I don't always have to tow the trailer everywhere. We like the trailer but it is nice not to have to worry about having enough space to park it, and also towing it really eats into the gas mileage.

I spent my 30th night this year near Keet Seel in Navajo National Monument. I've wanted to visit this spot for a long time and it was worth the wait!

Just spent 11 nights up E. Elk Creek (near New Castle, CO in the Flat Tops) and above Rifle Mountain Park. Man, are the creeks full - raging is a better word. I actually left the Rifle Mtn Park area as the creek was starting to flood out the road. No photos, as the first day one of my dogs knocked my camera off a rock and broke the lens mount (my gear lives dangerously). Everything's super green, and not one moskie or fly. Nights down in the low 40s. Paradise.

Your post made me want to cry, as I did the same thing a few years back and it's a long road to recovery. And very painful. I had a Casita once and if you don't already have an electric hitch for it, I would highly recommend getting one. Hope you heal fast.

Been a really slow start to the year for me...now that summer is here, things should pick up again.

Do you mean an electric jack? If so that is on our list of upgrades, just a little ways down. The first upgrade was a memory foam mattress.

I did mean electric jack. My brain's still way up in the mtns sitting under a big pine tree by a creek. :)

I feel so lucky to have gotten to experience the Yampa not once, but twice now! Good times last week with @George_Washington_Hayduke, @Adventure monkey, @Dave, @Jammer, @CJonesey and more. Dave took the oars from me for a couple days so I got to try out the packraft through Whirlpool Canyon. He paddled it through all of the meat, including Warm Springs at around 7k!

Jan 1 | Gold Butte | 0 - Technically a 2018 night, but I still think NYE should count as a bonus double!

And a few hundred of your closest friends? Pretty busy I'm guessing?

We got on the water at 7:30am (well before everyone else that was camped around there) and only saw a pair of packrafters pass us when we were stopped along the way. It was great!

That's fantastic and this is has been such a great year to do it too. Been on wanting to do it for a good while myself but have never been able to work out the logistics for it.

Got out for another night up Hobble Creek Canyon last night with my two boys for a group camp with a church group. Going to be going back outdoors for a couple more bag nights tomorrow.

Finally picked up the 2nd night of the year. Really lame so far but should improve. Went to the Nome Creek area of the White Mtns east of here for a night with the kids. A bazillion mosquitoes took away from really enjoying it but it was nice to be outside for a night.

Willow asleep at my feet at 1030 pm. The van was parked there to block the sun.

IMG_0960.JPG

The other tent at at 1240 am. The night had finally cooled enough to send the mosquitoes away, at least for a few hours.

I'll never forget those long summer nights way up north. And I was also surprised at how hot Fairbanks got. You guys will have your big Midnight Sun Festival before long. Kind of wish I was going to be there.
