Love the idea! Who doesn't love a beer in the backcountry? It would be interesting to see what it actually tastes like. I bought one of these bad boys a few months ago for my backpacking beverage needs.

This is definitely exciting news--I've been wondering about the possibility of concentrated beer for a while now. My only concern would be finding water that is cold enough to mix it with once you get to camp. It would basically have to be snow or glacier melt for it to work. Luke warm beer--no me gusta!

Do you also drink the whiskey out of it or do you bring a cup? And is it pretty durable if you pack your stuff really tight in your pack? I've been emptying out 1-liter water bottles and filling them with whiskey. Easy to sip from...

I have been rocking a GSI flask for a while now picked it up at rec outlet. Holds a half pint never messed up the flavor of my whiskey. Might be way to heavy for ultralight guys but a must have for me.:twothumbs:

I use a Platypus soft bottle for all my hooch needs. The 32 oz. fits a 1/5th of scotch so I usually bring one or two of those with me. After they are empty they roll up into almost nothing.

I have a Snow peak Ti cup that I drink out of. But, I see no reason that you couldn't drink right out of the Platy, although some care might be required to avoid chin dribbles, as it has no rigidity at all.. I need the cup for coffee in the mornings anyway, so it's not being carried just for drinking whiskey out of. So far, the reservior seems durable enough. My pack has a sleeve for a hydration bladder, which I don't use, so that is where I pack the whiskey. Meaning, it gets all my other stuff bearing on it after the compression straps are pulled tight. So far, not a drop of a leak or any other issues. Once empty, like any other Platy, it rolls up tight and weighs nothing.

Just-add-water beer is a terrible idea.
I've got that same GSI flask, but have only used it a few times; mainly 'cause I'm not a big liquor drinker.
I've also got a Platypus wine bag (http://www.rei.com/product/781835/platypus-platypreserve-wine-preservation-system-27-fl-oz). I've used it quite a few times, and really like it.
I like the idea of an insulated backcountry growler (http://www.backpacker.com/fall-wint...dro-flask-backcountry-beer-growler/gear/14854), but it's expensive, not collapsible, at 27oz. it weighs more than my sleeping bag, and it's out of stock anyway. This thing would be nice for car-camping, but again; expensive.
So I just bring beer but I only bring a couple in aluminum cans. Once nice thing though; the Moab Brewery is offering the Lager and the IPA in cans now!

I have filled the Nalgene collapsable bags with beer fold right down when done. Small one is about 5 of your favorite beers says 48 oz but you can fit in almost 56 oz.

Do you backpack with that? Doesn't the beer go flat pretty quick?

I have done this it works about as well as the growler it will go flat but not that fast.I do it day of can get to be heavy but short hikes it has worked out best if you have a snow bank or super cold water to chill in. Im sure if you have it for more than a day or two it would be FLAT_____________________.

For the people that like some backcountry beverages, I just came across this Palcohol it has been approved by the U.S. Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau. Definitely not going to be the same as the actual liquid version, but could save tons of weight.

Oh my...

Those who'd rather mainline booze directly into their bloodstream are also in luck. Palcohol can be snorted!

That stuff "ain't for me" as they say. But I can certainly see some practical applications for it.

Seeing this thread surfaces reminds me though, I need to decide what to put in the Platy for Salt Creek coming up pretty soon. Have just been rocking Rendevous Rye for awhile now, it's tasty and 92 proof makes it more efficient for the weight carried. Thinking it might be time to pack something different though, just for grins.
