After a quick trip to the farmers' market this morning to get some peaches, pears, apples, squash and jalapeño cheese bread, Sheila and I embarked on a 10.2 mile walk up City Creek Canyon to check out if any of the leaves were turning up the canyon. We walked up the road to where it is closed while they update the water treatment plant, and then we took the trail back down the canyon. The temperature reached 93 degrees this afternoon, so it was a hot walk. It's been a very hot summer and fall here in Salt Lake, and I'm ready for some cooler weather to move in.
The maples have started to turn and are probably at their best up City Creek right now. Unfortunately the colors are not as vivid as they were last year or even the year before. The poison ivy reds were impressive though. Maybe in a couple of weeks the cottonwoods and willows will put on a show with their yellows.
We were able to see six wild turkeys moving through the scrub on our way back down the canyon.
