Anyone done the drive from Vegas to Escalante Utah?

I am working on convincing a friend to do Death Hollow and maybe another hike in the area with my next June.....BUT, he hates driving. Its 17 hours from Wichita ks to get there, and he doesn't want to do that. I found cheap direct flights to Vegas from Wichita, and googlemaps says it a 5 hour drive. Is that true? I thought the country was pretty hilly out there, so I figured it might take longer....

Tell him it's only a 2 hour drive...he won't turn around and go back home by the time he figures out you hood-winked him

Trust me, I've done that to my friends a LOT!

But, yeah, that sounds about right. It's only an hour and a half or so from Vegas to St. George. A lot of the drive would be interstate.

Take him up through Zion and Bryce on the way, then at least it'll be one of the most scenic drives of his life. 5 hours is about right.

Yeah, I just did that drive in October and it's 5 hours actual driving time but don't forget Utah is an hour ahead of Nevada, so you'll have to add an hour when figuring out what time you'll arrive. It is one stunningly gorgeous drive though, maybe he'll forget that he's in a car. Flying to Vegas is a good way to go.
