Was being the key word here. Very sad story. This hits particularly close to home because traps and poison are just as likely to kill any of our beloved pets as they are a coyote or a wolf. It's sad that this seems to be the new normal in the west. It doesn't have to be.

Upsetting. A good reminder that we risk many potential pet killing devices in the backcountry. And a sad reminder of the unintended consequences of delisting the wolf.

Perhaps sad but believe me there will be more coming. By all accounts, they're doing really well in Idaho and Montana. Personally, I believe traps and snares should be outlawed but the delisting of gray wolves in ID & MT was the correct thing to do. And it is also the correct thing to do with grizzles here. The fact that it hasn't been done (again?) is making a mockery out of the Endangered Species Act.
