This was my first trip into the Grand Canyon for canyoneering. Started out small with a short day trip through Badger Creek in Marble Canyon.

The scale of the Grand Canyon is so superior, in my mind, to other places in the world. IT'S HUGE! John Wesley Powell was right in his comment on you can't see the Grand Canyon in one trip, but have to toil from month to month to see the Labrythn of the canyon (or how ever he said it). I'm jealous of the guys in that did the Last of the Great Unknown and wrote the Grand Canyoneering book. Very awesome stuff.

Anyways, Badger was a nice introduction to the Grand Canyon. The "narrows" of Badger I really liked. Just huge cliffs, towering on either side of you. Once I got to the Colorado, I felt small.

The rappels were fun in the canyon. We had to build a few of the anchors, they had weakened considerably from the last time someone was down there.

I didn't care much for the hike out in Badger. We took the southerly exit, not sure which one is better. But that climb out was brutal to me. then again it was early in my canyoneering career.

Nice!!!! That looked awesome! Too bad you weren't camping at the bottom it looked pretty nice down there.
Hope you don't mind I turned your music down.. I had Sam Bush railin on his Mandolin while I watched, fit the scene perfectly.

I assume you boulder hopped along the river and then up the weakness to the rim? Not a big weakness is it? There is a south fork of Badger and it is a better route than the standard. It has 3 raps too.

Now if you want to avoid that exit, you can hike 5 minutes above Badger Rapid, take a pack raft and cross the river and go up Jackass Canyon, which is much easier and quite pretty in its own right. I have pictures of this variation if anyone is interested
