Canyoneering season has begun (granted I was doing canyons in the winter, but we'll go with what the canyonistas call the canyon season ;)
This time I took off with some friends for Englestead Hollow in Zion. Talk about a rush!

I'll add that tons of tourists do hike a bit up from the bottom (myself being one of those tourists). You just have to avoid those deep pools @Nick talked about.
I have just a regular dry bag...i was thinking something that was more accessible, but just as waterproof (probably not possible). when you're in and out of water in these canyons it gets really time consuming and annoying to take your gear in and out.
I think it gets confusing because these tourists are expecting there to be a trail. If they realized there is no trail and basic route finding skills (looking around as you go for landmarks), they'd be fine when they got "off trail"

I haven't been able to get into Zion National Park for awhile to do a canyon in a while (busy with school, work and projects).
I got my chance to jump into Keyhole Canyon though!
This was one of the first time I set out to do a canyon to try and take my time and get some good photos in the...
Love it! two of my favorite hikes down here. I agree, the offseason is the best time to visit Kanarraville (unless of course you're going for photos of people).

I agree with what @Nick said. It is very possible to do as a day hike, just better for exploring as a 2 day trip. Using the stock trail makes it super easy to get in and out without anything technical.
Top-rate trip report @DAA !!! Super amazing photos and such a fun read of your experience out there. Got me pumped to be living out that direction this summer...many places of exploration.
