We're for sure hiking in the Reef around Temple Mount. We're traveling on I-70 cause its fast and its a long way from Cheeseland the Swell. I'm trying to find ruins - structures - that we could get to that wouldn't add any more driving than necessary.

Beautiful photo. We're going to do two or three short hikes in the Swell in early October. I think we're going to see if we can climb the reef around the Black Dragon panel and maybe Wild Horse Creek and check out some of the canyons through the reef.

Can we get to Hidden Splendor in a passenger van? I have a lot of experience on bad roads and it has made me cautious. We're not necessarily trying to get to Chimney, we want to do a two night backpack, carrying all our water. I was thinking of the area marked as "the pasture" on the map...

The Trails Illustrated map shows a trail heading south from Tomsich Butte to Chimney Canyon. I can't find any reports on it. Anyone been there?

Sitting here in Wisconsin looking at topo maps and google earth, it looks to me like a guy might able climb up on the reef from the east side from Wild Horse Creek north of Wild Horse Creek Trail. What's it look like on the ground? We're fit with good route finding skills but don't want any...

I-70 in the swell.

I see one road that goes up onto the flat and one that goes past Hyde Draw Reservoir to the trailhead. Are these pictures from the flat? Are both roads passable?

I've been to the swell once, and except for this road and the one north to the Wedge Overlook, I wasn't able to drive on any distance before we were blocked. We had a passenger car that time and will have a standard SUV this time, so we're limited by where we drive.
