Bullet to Government has always been the driest section of Grand Gulch when I've been in there. We've always had a little trouble finding water to drink in that section and have had to go up side canyons to get some from small springs. I wouldn't count on finding water to cool off in. But...

I drove up there during a winter storm a couple years ago and it's not an experience I care to repeat. The descent of the trail was steep and slippery at first, but nowhere near as bad as the drive. https://adventr.co/2019/04/heart-of-the-salt-creek-archeological-district/

Until recent years (dry and warm winters), this used to be the normal timeframe for that road to open.

Let me just state that I am not much of a climber and very conservative about going down things that I am not positive I can get back up, so what is impassible for me might still be easily passible for others.

Bandelier has been closed for over a week now. I was planning on spending a week in that area in 2 weeks, but now I’m looking at alternate plans.

To get some practice in before going on a bigger/remote trip you can float sections of the Colorado River through town and use your bike on the Riverfront Trail as a shuttle. I’ve done that a few times and it makes a nice after-work float in the summer.

I have 3 Big Agnes tents (Copper Spur) and the material is thin, but I have had no problems with them with over 10 years of regular use. I always use a footprint. I did have some zipper issues on one of them and sent it in to Big Agnes to have it repaired.

Well, I personally avoid all interactions with rangers unless it is absolutely required....but that's just me :)
