You can certainly start in Loma and end AT the Dolores. You would need a permit from the BLM to run Westwater Canyon (and some prior experience with class III-IV whitewater depending on flows). Were you thinking of taking out near the confluence of the Dolores and the Colorado?

I was thinking something like Davis or Fiftymile. Grand Gulch has been on my list for awhile too. Any idea on what Dark Canyon is like that time of year? I've never been down there but it's been on my list for awhile.

I should clarify that we went from Whiterocks to Center Park TH/Yellowstone Creek. So closer to 50 miles. But the first part of your route was the same. If I remember right there was a lot of whining and "I wish I was home with my mom!" during thunderstorms.:)
