Syncline Valley, Taylor Canyon in Mid Feb?

Hey I lived in Utah back then! Hahaha. I have always had a decent cold tolerance though... You and @booksandhikes make a great point that cold tolerance is not universal and probably isn't something to mess with if you've got beginners not used to cold.

Syncline Valley, Taylor Canyon in Mid Feb?

I did Syncline with a spur out to camp at the Green back in early March 2020. That comment you linked with the water sources looks about right. I don't believe there's much water in Taylor, but I have not been (for that reason). We got all our water from the Green, using aluminum sulfate to...

    Ugly News from Yosemite:

A single wilderness ranger that's actually only a volunteer? That poor, kind soul.

Buffalo Lake, Boundary Creek and the Bechler Meadows - Yellowstone National Park - September 8, 2025

I've been there 3 or 4 times now and it seems to just be hit-or-miss depending on if there are day hikers. Probably quieter on weekdays and after peak season. We've never had the place to ourselves though.

Buffalo Lake, Boundary Creek and the Bechler Meadows - Yellowstone National Park - September 8, 2025

Fantastic!! I have wondered about Buffalo Lake and the thermal areas on Boundary Creek and Silver Scarf lately. My friend and I have been talking about them since he read about them in a book. Very cool to see! Interesting to see the v-notch weir on that stream. Was there a staff gauge/ruler...

    Joseph's Coat and More

I'm so curious about why they let us go there when they knew it was down, but now it's closed because it's down. There were decent trees to hang from! But I guess they don't trust people to do a good job with that, which I understand haha.

    Joseph's Coat and More

That is awesome. I can only imagine how pleasant that walk must have been haha. The few stretches with minimal deadfall were so nice. It's such a pretty and remote place! The mix of fallen logs and new growth is tough for sure.

    Joseph's Coat and More

Oh interesting. When did you notice the closure? The ranger didn't say anything to us about the pole being down. But after we noticed there was no pole, we checked the permit, which actually said there wasn't one. But the site wasn't closed I guess since they gave us the permit! Haha. It was...

    Joseph's Coat and More

July 18-20, 2025 Over the winter, we had formed the idea of going to Joseph's Coat and Fairyland Basin, and since permits are not in high demand for the area, we went ahead and booked a trip after the lottery period closed. I'm pretty sure I've now read every resource on the Fairyland area at...

    Deseret Peak - July 14, 2025

Loooove Deseret Peak! That last time I did it was my first time doing this route you did, rather than the out and back. Must have been later in the season because we didn't see nearly as many wildflowers. Such great views!

    Salt River Range

Very nice! Looks like a great earlier season outing. Also I think you may have accidentally copied and pasted your paragraph and photos a few times. It repeats a few times in the report.

Trump is proposing 1.2 billion in cuts to the National Park's budget by transferring properties to the states or tribal management.

It was great to see our members of Congress here in Montana take a stand on this one. An issue that such a large majority agrees on.
