Southern Utah - Suggestions for 3-4 day backpack in October

well, you can do a three day trip into la Verkin creek in zion set up basecamp for both nights somewhere by Kolob arch, then spend the second day going to the border of the national park, you can even add a day and go straight up la Verkin creek instead of going along Willis creek (no water in...

Glacier in 2 Weeks!!! (Boulder Pass Questions)

From what I saw the snow above 8,000 feet wasn't much at all, we went to the ridge southwest of Reynolds and there was no snow along the whole southwestern talus slope of Reynolds and Gould looked to have no snow from the west. So the weather didn't bring much at all.

Glacier in 2 Weeks!!! (Boulder Pass Questions)

Well, my dad and I were nowhere near that area, but Siyeh pass and the Allen ridgeline at 8,000 feet was completely free of snow and that is similar to boulder pass in elevation. Any snow hazards on the trail will be minimal, and will more than likely have tracks in them to follow. In two weeks...

Zion NP-Kolob Arch, Beartrap Falls, and Willis Creek

I feel like when I go to that area in the future I am gonna need to remember that it is not a trail most of the way and that it is just walking up a wash/drainage and also an early as all get out start would be nice. The country back there is truly wild and honestly is one of the best places...

Zion NP-Kolob Arch, Beartrap Falls, and Willis Creek

geez, one that is kind of a dream to go back to Chasm Lake someday mostly as an ego thing. Kind of funny that they bring a ton of rangers for that but not for the more popular technical canyons. I hear the hill to get to the saddle is a killer from Joe Braun, but I am not sure if it is similar...

Backpacking Yellowstone's Snake River, Heart Lake, and South Boundary Trail

Once again, very nice trip report Joey!:twothumbs: Do love the weasel pictures, I think they are just downright adorable. Me being the Glacier freak that I am, I will be incredibly excited for this one! Good luck hombre.

Zion NP-Kolob Arch, Beartrap Falls, and Willis Creek

I remember sitting in my tent trying to go to bed seeing a huge daddy long leg hanging out, so I ended up flicking it off my tent. Next thing I know I have 10 huge daddy long legs running around my tent at lightning speed, needless to say it was sort of freaky.

Zion NP-Kolob Arch, Beartrap Falls, and Willis Creek

This trip was meant to be a solo backpacking trip along the La Verkin creek trail all the way to the park border then down through Hop Valley. This was not the case because apparently in Zion the permit holder must be 18 years or older, and must be on the trip. This was baffling because in...

    Glacier Day Hiking Questions

Oh yeah, Iceberg lake is 9 miles roundtrip and is quite awesome. I need to get there again because of the infamous (in my family) Glacier Trip of 2011

    Glacier Day Hiking Questions

well, lee's ridge is what you did going to slide lake, so 4 miles of trees and forest then bomber views down the belly river 12 miles total. Grinnell is just about 10 miles, and Rockwell is around 10 as well. Grinnell is all up and Rockwell is easy.

    Glacier Day Hiking Questions

I will say this straight away, no matter what you do in the park (even John's Lake Loop hehe) will be amazing. You just might have to change your frame of mind. My favorite day hikes are probably Grinnell Glacier (duh) Hidden Lake with a sidetrip to Reynold's Dragon's tail saddle on the easy...

At large camping near Glacier NP?

I'm not sure how much at large camping there is in the area, but like Outdoor_Fool said, the Whitefish and Kootenai NF's have promise. The wilderness zones you can camp at if are willing to work a little and not car camp (If the great bear and bob Marshall wilderness run how I think they do)...

    Ruby Mountains backpack 06/28 - 06/30

WOW! This makes me put the Ruby Mountains as a place to go to sometime in the future. Maybe earlier than you with ice axe and crampons, that would be wonderful! Very nice Trip Report BTW

Glacier National Park - I cannot run out of superlatives.

Yeah I have heard good things about the Sue Lake bench. Hiking partners are definitely hard to come by when your only friend who remotely likes it lives in Rexburg during the summers, and your one friend who lives in the area never responds back for some reason. I have many years until I can...

Glacier National Park - I cannot run out of superlatives.

Yup, it was a great trip! Hopefully I can get walk-in permits for something in glacier, preferably Elizabeth Lake and Poia Lake so I can get to Redgap pass and explore the Belly River a little bit. More ambitious is spending nights by Glenns lake and Mokowanis Lake, then adventuring to find...
