Good car camping spot in the Uintas

So I have a couple of weeks off and I am planning on heading back to the Ogden area to visit family. On the way, I was thinking about stopping in the Uintas for a few nights of car camping with my squaw and pooches. I know a lot of the members here spend quite a bit of time in that area and was...

Valley of Fire NV Night Hikes...

As I recall the ticket for the fire was $300.00, but it's been a few years

Suggestions for 30 miler and scouts in Cedar City area?

I agree with Nick. The desert will be smoking hot and water for a group that big culd prove to be spotty.

    Tubing the Weber River

I always put in a Taggert and got out of the river shortly after the waterfall near main street after the fair grounds. This was a few years back and my aunt lived right on main street in Morgan so it was convienant. I noticed a bunch of kayakers putting in at Taggert on my way back to Colorado...

Valley of Fire NV Night Hikes...

Heck ya, just leave a note stating that you went after some night shots. The one backcountry ticket I got was gnarly expensive for having a fire to close to a lake but you never know, they might let you slide.

    Wyoming Fire Ban 2012

Damn, we have a statewide ban here in Colorado, Utah has a ban and now Wyoming? I hate not having a fire.

Google Launches Street View For Hiking Trails

I would love to find their planned trips somewhere. It would be a blast to set up in a Sasquatch outfit and get added to google maps like horse boy in England.

    Lanterns?

That Micro looks pretty sweet. Amazon doesn't list the weight, but judging from the looks it probably weighs next to nothing. This is just what I was looking for. Thanks Nick.

    Lanterns?

So with the fire ban here in Colorado that looks like it might last all season, do any of y"all use a small, lightweight lantern? I have looked at a couple from REI that look pretty decent but kinda heavy.

North Ogden divide over Mount Ogden to 29th T/H 26 miles

Hell ya, I used to live right where North Ogden Divide comes out into North Ogden. I have done this sucker a few times and actually used the first climb as a conditioning trip for backpacking. That sucker goes upppppppp. Going the other way up to Ben Lomond is a pretty fun trip, lots of great...

    Fracking Kanarraville

Judging by the stuff you listed, I would stop and pay as well.

    Fracking Kanarraville

It sure doesn't sound like it would be legal. Maybe the parking fee but an additional fee charged by a land owner seems kinda sketchy to me. Personally, I would skip that spot. Nothing worse then greedy folks making a profit off something that we all should enjoy free.

Backpacking, Hiking & Camping Gear to Use this Year

I have an Atmos that I love. I did have some problems with the first bag but that turned out to be fit issue. Overall, it's been my favorite bag next to my REI flash.

    Summer Plans

I have a few weekend trips around the Rockies planned, one in the Northern area that should be pretty nice, some old gold mines and a crashed WW2 plane along the way. The other two are in the Southern area around Leadville. Then I have a week long section of the continental divide trail I am...

    Water Canyon/Canaan Mountain, March 16, 2012

I had no idea this place exsisted. Did you have any problems with the FLDS folk in Hilldale? I have heard stories from freinds of being followed and generally made to feel unwelcome. I have purposly not even bothered looking in that area due to their precense.

    Freeze Dry Food

Those vacuum sealers are sweet. I don't use them for food much but use them to store produce from my garden. Definatly keeps the stink in and keeps things fresh for months.

Backpacker's America's Best Camp Sites - Coyote Gulch

I saw that, he did an artical a few months ago outlining an off trail route through Capitol Reef that he had spent some time developing and it looks pretty sweet. I guess sharing the beauty we have all been enjoying isn't such a bad idea.
