My bag is hanging above my tent on the wall drying out. Do notice thoe how Bob took up most of the room, and left me on the outer edge of the porch closest to the food ring in case any curious bears showed up. :)

    Boulder Creek NON Short-cut

Glad that helped. Where you coming down or going up Boulder Creek? I don't think i've used either his entrance or exit spots on that by-pass. I've yet to go down those narrows. I want to bring a tube down there and spend a day tubing down it a few times.

Thats because they live out in meadows and open country where the walking is easy. They don't hang out near un named ponds surrounded by downfall and fire burn. :)

Actually, Bob took those photos. :) I just took over his camera after my batteries died, and am using his work to get popular. :) I did get good video of them running towards us though, as well as the mom pushing the third guy down the den.

Backpacking Yellowstone's Shoshone Lake and Mr Bubbles in May

This is a 6 day backpack I did a few weeks ago over the Memorial Day week. This was an early season hike, and includes some off trail hiking. A large portion of the route was still snow covered. This is in the south west quadrant of Yellowstone National Park. The route: Day 1, May 28th: I...

Glacier National Park - I cannot run out of superlatives.

You should look into walking up to the Sue Bench and Pyramid Peak. Its one of the nicest alpine areas in the park, and you look down on all those lakes in the Mokowanis Lake drainage. No trail, but just steep walking from the Stoney Indian trail. You can get an undesignated camping spot at...

Glacier National Park - I cannot run out of superlatives.

Great photos! I love seeing the snow up there, last year was so bad. And I kind of like the burn now along the road. It offers some better views in my opinion. I did that Lee Ridge trail for the first time last year. We had smokey skies, so the views were somewhat limited. But thats a...

    The Before/After thread

Think i've blown that one off for this year. The shuttle for that trip is out of my budget.

A family of badgers running down the trail towards @Bob and I along Slough Creek in Yellowstone National Park. After they saw us, most of them ran the other way. But one little guy stuck around to take a longer look.

The Anthony Creek, Russell Field Trails Loop - Great Smoky Mountain National Park, June 10, 2016

Nice Hugh! This brings back memories. I've hiked that route before. I saw a big black bear in the fog climbing up above campsite #9, and remember seeing a bunch of turkeys around that area. One day we need to plan some spring trips over there. I'm hoping to finally get back to the Smokies...

A few shots of @Bob and myself on a recent 7 day backpack along Yellowstone National Park's boundary with the Absaroka Beartooth Wilderness. Camping on the porch of a patrol cabin along Buffalo Creek during a rain storm. At Hellroaring Buffalo Divide in the Absaroka's. In Frenchy's...

    Boulder Creek NON Short-cut

I'm kind of confused by you referring to 2 different short cuts. So sorry if this is not what your talking about. But I recognize that map as the short cut of the narrows. Allen has a route drawn that looks just almost exactly like your recreated map. Map 40, page 264 in Canyoneering 3. But...

Hey @Michael ! That is a hot spring i'm standing in. Its commonly known as Mr Bubbles, and its in the Yellowstone backcountry. Pretty neat spot! I still need to write up some trip reports from the Escalante. I got sick on my big trip after eating with you guys, and hiked out on day 5 up...

The Sawtooths in October: A 5 Day Alice, Toxaway, Vernon, Imogene Lakes Loop

Would love to see some pictures of those other areas. I hope do a similar route later this year or next year. I imagine they look different in July too.

The Sawtooths in October: A 5 Day Alice, Toxaway, Vernon, Imogene Lakes Loop

Thanks Doug. I'll be anxious to hear about your JMT experience. Would love to do that someday. I just have trouble leaving the Galcier and Yellowstone ecosystems. Keep me in mind if you plan a sawtooths trip and are looking for someone else to tag along for next year.

The Sawtooths in October: A 5 Day Alice, Toxaway, Vernon, Imogene Lakes Loop

Good to know there are others. It takes some great skill to navigate snow around camp in socks and flip flops without getting your feet wet. :)
