Backpacking Yellowstone: Fairyland Basin, Josephs Coat, Wapiti Lake, and Pelican Valley

I thought you quit. And dipped Wintergreen. Yes, wintergreen is more of a Teton flavor. :)

    Howdy

Cool to see you on here Eric. Great resource. I think both Colorado and Utah are awesome places to live, although different from each other. As far as the religion thing goes in Utah, it isn't that bad, and I agree with everything already said above. As someone who is free spirited, not...

Backpacking Yellowstone: Fairyland Basin, Josephs Coat, Wapiti Lake, and Pelican Valley

I don't know if this is the type of trip I would take someone on for their first Yellowstone backpack. Fairylands is like dipping Skoal straight. You got to really like it. It would probably seem boring to most backpackers. I think a trip out into the Thorofare or deep into the Lamar would...

Backpacking Yellowstone: Fairyland Basin, Josephs Coat, Wapiti Lake, and Pelican Valley

Could be true. I've heard that story. I've heard several different stories, and don't know who I believe. It's definitely been on people's radar since the 1990's. I've also heard word got out after a longtime park employee died, and his journal was read.

Backpacking Yellowstone: Fairyland Basin, Josephs Coat, Wapiti Lake, and Pelican Valley

You can still backpack out there. It's only closed to overnight use in the Pelican Valley.

I'll help Ben out. One of the more scenic sections of the Escalante River. This is the mouth of what canyon?

Backpacking Yellowstone: Fairyland Basin, Josephs Coat, Wapiti Lake, and Pelican Valley

Back in 2008, I was sitting at the bar at Flagg Ranch, just outside the south entrance to Yellowstone National Park, with my buddy John Nause. We had recently quit our jobs down at Signal Mountain Lodge, and were spending the summer exploring the Yellowstone backcountry. All though I had been...

    Guess the spot: Maps Edition

You guys have to guess this by tonight, since I'll be gone from the computer a few days afterwards. Otherwise Kayla will just have to claim it. There is a good clue with the red line and elevations. It's located in a wilderness area.

    Guess the spot: Maps Edition

The Polecat and Spirea creek drainages coming off the Pitchstone Plateau. Just northwest of the South entrance to Yellowstone National Park. Lots of hot springs out there. That area was pretty close to the fire this year, but I don't think the fire ever crossed the park boundary. I may be wrong.

    Pilgrim Creek - Teton Wilderness - October 7, 2016

Actually, we didn't have to walk through them this time. Maybe it had something to do with it being late in the year and the vegetation not being so thick. But we were able to skirt that whole willows part by carefully walking the river bank.

170 Miles in the Sierra Nevada

Awesome stuff Doug! Thanks for the write up. At some point soon I've gonna have to venture over that way to do this. Wow! I don't think I went a week this whole summer without getting hit with a storm. I've had several people tell me how good the weather is in the Sierra's in the summer...
