    Favorite Trips of 2012

Awesome idea. My three: 3. Wind River Range Loop My first visit to the much heralded mountain range. This 6 day circumnambulation of the Cirque was unforgettable. 2. Escalante Backpackaneering This 3 day, 2 night outing had it all--backpacking, bushwacking, and canyoneering. The...

    U-turn Canyon, 12/2/12

No permits needed for canyons in Arches (yet) with exception to anything in the Furnace. Car to car it was 2.5 hours.

    U-turn Canyon, 12/2/12

Day two of our Moab excursion brought drclef and I into Arches National Park for a few hours of fun in U-turn canyon. Turned out to be a terrific little Sunday morning route. Fireside sunrise: From the Park Avenue trailhead. Our route would take us, clockwise, up and around this set of...

    Rock of Ages, 12/1/12

Yeah if you're coming from the east you're golden. The drops are in the next drainage south (and west trending back towards Pritchett) of the one that holds the arch. Definitely an intriguing area that begs to be explored a little more. What was your route through there?

    Rock of Ages, 12/1/12

Thanks, everyone! Jammer, it was a single frame (around 17mm, full-frame sensor) shot. As far as access to Pool Arch, do you mean coming in from the east? Access is pretty good from both west and east side canyons. Our route brought us to the southern base of the Arch (where the shot was taken)...

    Rock of Ages, 12/1/12

drclef and I took advantage of this lingering balmy autumn of ours and visited the Moab area this past weekend for a couple of canyons. On Saturday we hit Rock of Ages, a fun and absolutely beautiful mid-sized romp in the Pritchett Canyon area. <iframe width="850" height="500" frameborder="0"...

    Dominguez Canyon part 2

Thanks for the TR, Brutus. Nicely done. Couldn't imagine canyoneering with my old man. We probably wouldn't even make it past one rappel w/o killing each other. Did he introduce you to the activity?

    Learning Lightroom

I like it. Lightroom, Photoshop, peoples favorite plug-ins, the whole shebang. I'd love to share the luminosity masks that I've been using in PS, I think folks would really dig them.

Seeking free, 2WD-friendly campsites just north of Moab

Heading down late-night Friday to the Moab area for some weekend festivities and was hoping someone could shed some light on any free, easy access campsites just off 191. I've camped down in the area numerous times, but always as a fortunate passenger of a 4wd vehicle. Problem with this visit is...

    Backcountry Vehicles

I don't think the question is whether or not four lengthy people can fit comfortably in the 4-door Taco, but rather can you fit the gear of four people in the rear. We've cut it close on more than one occasion; thankfully, nick is a bonafide Master Packer. His work is a beautiful thing.

Cirque of the Towers - Texas Pass in August

Affirmative. When I went over this past (late) July, the snowfield on the south side was easily traversed. Wait for the afternoon to warm the snow up a bit and you'll be just fine, as it's not a very steep slope. The north side, however, is a different story. No snow when we went through, but...

Gear Lust - What's on your 2012 Holidays Wish List?

Yes. Local legend even has it that there's one canyon down there with a 285' underwater rappel. You actually use your party boat as the anchor.

Gear Lust - What's on your 2012 Holidays Wish List?

Wouldn't mind taking a four day weekend and pokin' around Glen Canyon some next summer. Somebody has to beta those canyons, right? ;)
