    Idle time in the backcountry

Just curious how everyone likes to spend their down-time in the backcountry. Whether it be due to inclement weather, mosquitoes, long winter nights, etc, we all find ourselves at times stuck in our tents earlier or for longer than maybe we would normally desire. Personally, since I began...

    Ultralight Bear Canisters

The last time I thru-hiked the John Muir Trail I rented the Bearikade Weekender, and was really happy with it. Weighing in at just a hair under 2 lbs., it's 10oz. lighter than the Bear Vault (but holds 50 cubic inches less food). While certainly a massive improvement over the legendary (and...

    Maps for Spring trip

BNP blows the Gaia GPS app out of the water (at least on android) . You won't be disappointed.

    Cinemascapes

A closer look at Kilian Jornet's project, which premiered last week in Spain. Pretty inspirational stuff...

    So what did you get?

Nice. That's one helluva haul there, Jack. I did very well myself. Finally got my hands on a GoProHero3 (so long, Contour!), and a Panasonic GF5k for the skinnies. Stoked!

No video compilation is complete without the Swiss Machine, Ueli Steck. The scenes from the Alexis Pitch are astounding.

Posting Trip Reports from a Blog or Personal Website

Nick, say you posted a trip report here on BCP first. Is there a way to reverse the converter (BBCode to HTML) so you can copy from here and move your TR to your blog?

    Canvas prints?

No comparison, but I'll also vouch for WHCC. They also, once your sign up, offer you 5 free 8x10 prints, just so you can verify that your monitor is calibrated correctly. And at least in the past, they've had prints to me in 2 days, whereas I'm pretty sure with Costco you have to wait 5-10 days...

    Cinemascapes

Wow. Truly insane. I've never seen anything quite like that. How long do you think those ropes were? And any chance we can get our hands on a mechanized ascender like that? Forget Prusiks....;)

    Books

Heh, I feel your pain. The best way to go about making sense of his maps is to treat them like those autostereogram wall posters that were popular in the 80s. Just cross your eyes, and it'll all make sense ;) Otherwise, you just have to suffer through his frenetic ramblings and make the best of...

    Cinemascapes

I wanted to start a thread where BCP members could share all-things-video: visually-stunning clips, awe-inspiring trailers, even your own cinematic manifestations--anything pertaining to our spectacular natural world that will get your fellow BCPers stoke-o-meters rising. I'll start with a...

    Album Rainbows

While not quite a Rainbow, I witnessed this Moonbow while camping in Anza Borrego Desert State Park over New Year's, 2010. It had been storming to our west all evening, but stayed dry to our east, allowing the near full-moon to rise unscathed and create this awesome reflected night light.

    Larry Canyon, 11/17/12

Thanks Dan--welcome to the darkside. Mogwai is one of my favorite bands, and I agree--their music seems to have been made for this kind of stuff.

    Russell Gulch & The Subway

Very, very nice Nick. I especially love the second Subway image--a sweet composition that I've yet to see many other folks capture. What do you think of the new bolts?

    Larry Canyon, 11/17/12

Pretty rough ending. Definitely wouldn't want to slog that in the summer. Thankfully for us, it was cool and the light was amazing, which made it a lot easier. Not to mention the whiskey. And not to mention the mile we shaved off when we successfully thumbed someone who was heading back from the...

    Larry Canyon, 11/17/12

nick, langutah, neiloro and I took advantage of some mild autumn weather and visited the Roost for a little mid-November canyoneering. Larry Canyon was first up on the menu, and it'd be the maiden voyage for the whole crew. Not oblivious to public opinion, our hopes were high for this descent...

Trekking the Himalaya - Khumbu, Nepal

Mind blown. Thanks for sharing, Dan. Would love to get to the east side of Nepal some day. I'm right there with you as you writhe in pain on the floor in gastro-intestinal horror. I was very fortunate to not have that happen to me while on the Circuit, but experienced it several times before and...
