    Album Autumn Colors 2015

From this past weekend in Capitol Reef. Cottonwoods were at about 50% I'd say, should be peaking or close to peaking this weekend. Lot's of variation.

Thanks man. And yeah, it's the a6000 :)

What's in my pack: my ultralight setup for a quick overnighter.

Thanks for sharing. You didn't mention it, but that pack looks like the HMG 3400, yeah? I carry the same, and have to say I absolutely love it (got the cordura pockets though so I can stuff my tripod and other pokey things on the outside). Curious though, what's your arrangement for hiking...

Thanks Dan. Those were taken with the Sony 10-18mm (15-36 equivalent). Love that little lens.

Map of our Labor Day weekend route: http://caltopo.com/m/5P0A One of the many appealing features of backpacking in Colorado is it's scores of trailheads above 10,000 feet that one can access quite easily. Nothing like starting out right around treeline. Our Labor Day loop would begin at the...

Hiker Killed by Grizzly Bear in Yellowstone

Just curious, what was your encounter? As far as @Nick's question, I'm of the thinking that they should be spared, without question, from a Wilderness perspective. But then again, it's not a place I frequent; so I do wonder if my opinion would be different if I was a regular visitor to that...

    Sony A6000

@Vegan.Hiker, personally I've started using the viewfinder more than the LCD as a means of saving some battery life. Both work equally well. The LCD has a nice resolution, and it's max-brightness is more than enough for mid-day viewing. I've found that that setting will kill the battery pretty...

    Sony A6000

@Dan_85, that Roki 12mm is on my wishlist for night stuff; glad to see you getting some nice shots with it. And oh, one other significant complaint I have of this body is it lacks an electronic level. Not the end of the world, as you can remedy that with a small bubble level mounted on the Hot...

    Sony A6000

Yep, taken with the 10-18 (which is more like 15-28 or so when converted). Haven't used the kit lens, so can't comment on that one. Reviews I've read about that lens are mixed (which is par for the course for kits). The overall experience with the Sony has been very positive. Of course it's...

    Sony A6000

Well, let me put it this way. I like my a6000 enough that I've begun selling off my Canon 5D stuff. I don't have any experience using any of Canon's EF lenses with it, but Sony's own 10-18mm is fantastic. I've included a couple examples from a recent trip to Titcomb Basin.

Teton Crest Trail July 13th-17th 2015

Good stuff. Some of my favorite locations in all of the intermountain west are along this path (Death Canyon Shelf and Alaska Basin and Hurricane Pass and...). Experienced the same unknown anxiety with Paintbrush Divide last year, but didn't end up needing our tools either. Thanks for sharing!

    Bear Canister Opinions

If you're looking for a lightweight (albeit spendy) option, the Bearikade is one you should look into. Served me very well on a thru-hike of the John Muir Trail a few years ago.

Big Boulder Lakes, White Clouds -- July 3-5, 2015

@drclef and I took advantage of the long July 4th weekend and paid a visit to the Boulder White Cloud mountains of Central Idaho. A maiden visit for us, we were intrigued by it's dramatic granite ridge lines, lush, lake-dotted basins, and relative obscurity. Photographs that I'd seen online...
