    Hop Valley Snow

Just a dayhike from Hop Valley to La Verkin Creek off the Kolob Terrace Road in Zion, 13 miles up and back. The weather changed and gave me such a treat. Sometimes bad weather has it's bright lining. Short period where the skies cleared and the snow was sliding off the...

I have thought about visiting as well but now I'm not so sure! The last two trips in the Grand Canyon were more remote then I've done before. How does someone go backwards? Glad you did get a little time of peace and quiet.

Grand Canyon-Bill Hall Trail to Thunder River and Deer Creek

There's more downhill to get to the river. Then you rock hop a bit on the beaches. The black granite obstacle was the thing I would really recommend a rope or webbing for , at least to lower packs. The footing is sketchy. Then there's a steep rocky uphill to get to deer creek campsites. All...

Grand Canyon-Bill Hall Trail to Thunder River and Deer Creek

Last week three of us did a lollipop loop of about 27 miles. Starting from the Bill Hall Trail at Monument Point, North rim. The week had been rainy and we still weren't convinced of clearing. The original plan was to car camp on the trail head road the night before but it was rainy and cold...

Water Canyon to White Wave (help & invite)

Just wanted to get back to you to make sure you knew that there was severe flooding in the Hildale area a few weeks ago. I'm not sure how the road is going to Water Canyon. Please check before your trip.

    Backpacking Pine Valley Mountains

Especially poignant after the long week we've had watching the Oak Grove fire up there. Hopefully this rain will put an end to it! I've been up Water Canyon/Mill Creek and Forsyth (I probably spelled that wrong) up to Burger Peak this year. Always leg burners, always beautiful.

    St. George summer

We just hiked Rattlesnake Creek/Ashdown Gorge this weekend. Also hiked Crystal Springs trail to the Cedar Breaks amphitheater bottom this summer. Spring Creek in Kanarraville is good. Then we do lots of water hikes and canyons taking in account monsoon weather. I also just did a two night...

    slot canyons and/or arches

Usually the decreased visitation means a little harder to get to. If you were at peekaboo and spooky, I think brimstone is very pretty. You just go to where you can't go without climbing (which is not far). Neon canyon, although not a slot has beautiful walls and the golden cathedral. By...

    slot canyons and/or arches

What are your criteria? It looks like canyons that do not require rappelling at first glance.

Desert noobs visit Zion and the North Rim

Better watch out. Almost 7 years ago after a Grand Canyon dory trip and a trip to Zion, this Midwesterner and family ended up in St George. Best thing we ever did! Ps we were in Boundary Canyon this week and did the Kolob Canyon exit to the narrows. Stayed in campsite 7 :)

    Narrows: Which Campsite?

www.nps.gov/zion/planyourvisit/narrowscampsites.htm Maybe this will help. I personally love Deep Creek because it just is a great site but it doesn't fit your request for where you would like it. Have fun!

    The other Subway in Zion

That's what I'm afraid of. On the other note, you guys are just hitting the Narrows at the wrong time of year. This was last December. Cuts down the crowds quite a bit!

    The other Subway in Zion

Actually I'm sad about the Subway as we live in St. George and Springdale is our best option for dining variety. Love celebrating a good hike at Oscar's or Whiptail. I hope the chains don't make it impossible for the locals to compete. Although a little less of a line at Oscar's might not be...

Water Canyon to White Wave (help & invite)

Squirrel follows an old ATV trail at first then heads up a canyon. Once it heads up it is really pretty, especially in the fall. It is much harder to route find than Water though. Water starts out in a area that's more enclosed then follows a wash for awhile. Mostly everywhere there would be...
