    Favorite Books

I'm with pinecone on this one - Fools Progress is like a fine mixture of Ed Abbey and Charles Bukowski. I'd have a hard time listing my favorite books - I read a lot and have a ton of favorites. I read a pretty wide variety of books - fiction and non. I'll have to just mention a top few...

    Comb Ridge/Cedar Mesa - May 2008

Day Four Sunday was to be our final hiking day, and we decided to head to a spot I’d been looking forward to visiting for quite some time. The Citadel is a ruin that sits on a peninsula jutting out into Road Canyon. The hike is about 4 or 5 miles round trip with a bit of scrambling and...

    Comb Ridge/Cedar Mesa - May 2008

Day Three Saturday morning we woke up and headed out to Comb Ridge. This day started out bad, as I misrouted us up a drainage to head to Monarch Cave, and instead ended up about 200 feet above large cliffs which ended up in the correct drainage. After that mishap, we decided not to hike back...

    Comb Ridge/Cedar Mesa - May 2008

Day Two Friday morning we woke up early and headed farther east on Elk Mountain Road. We quickly reached the turnoff for the ruins, which is a road which drops off the mesa in dramatic, sometimes a little overwhelming fashion. It’s a pretty rough 4wd road and I was grateful I was driving my...

    Comb Ridge/Cedar Mesa - May 2008

Day 1. In early May, my friend Greg flew in from Pittsburgh for a week and we spent several days down in the Southeastern corner of Utah. I’d been reading alot of books about the Anasazi for the past few months and really wanted to get a chance to visit some ruins in the areas. We left early...

    Maple-Sage Beef Jerky

I have the exact dehydrator that HomerJ just bought, and have made several batches of jerky with it. The regulation of temperature is awesome, plus the tray design allows you rotate effectively. HomerJ - how did you do your ground meat - I've not done that yet?

    Maple-Sage Beef Jerky

I let mine get dried to the point where it starts to crack when it's bent - but not beyond - then let cool on the rack, and refrigerate. Refrigerated, 30 days or so. Frozen - longer, but not as good when thawed. Here's a approximation of the recipe I use. 3-4 lbs of Roast or Steak (Wild game...

    Maple-Sage Beef Jerky

I rock the home-made jerky quite frequently - have a few good recipes I'll have to share. a favorite secret ingredient is Sriracha - it adds just the right kick without overwhelming the flavor. I've been lucky that I've been kept in supply of wild game - elk, deer and caribou. Makes for great...

    Noobs: Introduce Yourself!

I'm Clint -I've had the good fortune to spend a few days on the trail with a few of you already, and a lot of days with Summit. I spend as much time as I can in the south during the summer, spring and fall - winter trips have been slim pickin's the last couple of years. I'm married, and have...

    Goblin Valley Yurts

A friend and I stayed in Yurt #1 during the week after Xmas. It was very nice - #1 is definately the way to go - a little bit secluded, about 30-40 yards off the road, tucked into a grouping of Goblins. It was nice to have somewhere to go at night - cranked up the firepit outside until about...
