    Noob from CA

California has damn near everything. But it doesn't have southern Utah. I wish I could live in both places.

Beach Backpacking and Creek Bed Sleeping

Thank you for sharing. The pics were great. I visited Fern Canyon decades ago. It was guided tour only back then. I wonder why that changed.

Doing fine in Labyrinth Canyon, 9-17-20

Lockdown has been tough but I was starting to believe that I was missing a couple of weeks. I did that trip from the Green River put-in to Mineral in 1978. It was July and we saw maybe 3 other people the whole time and they had motors.

Thank you for sharing. Beautiful pics. Am I the only one who wonders what 10-17-20 means?

    Floating Labyrinth Canyon

Thank you for sharing. I did that in 1979 with two other people and 2 6 man rafts. One raft was loaded with enough beer and food to supply a platoon for two days. It was a beautiful float. EDIT: it was 1978. 1979 we went from Mineral Bottom to Hite marina with Holiday Tours. $295 for 5 nights...

Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore in Michigan's Upper Peninsula

I grew up in Wyandotte. If I had 3 days off I headed to the UP. Brevort, Eppoufette, Cut River, and such. I swam in the big lake at Whitefish Point in June 1973. Once was enough for me. If I had 2 weeks off I headed west. 1976 found me living in Flat Rock, MI. I found a book in the library...

    Album The members of backcountrypost.com

"This book had nothing to do with the title. It should be called "Self-Flagellation in the Mud Bogs of America's Greatest National Park." But it was a great read anyway." Somewhat like Trout Fishing In America by Richard Brautigan. It had little to do with trout fishing.

    5 nights in the Smokies

That was special. I haven't been there in almost 50 years but when I saw your pic of the Appalachian Trail sign I could actually smell it. Such a special place.

    Death Valley Birthday - Part 1 (3.5.20-3.6.20)

It's along a road that heads south out of Bodie. You come up on a little ridge covered in oak brush. You leave the road on a two track heading west for a few hundred yards. You can sit up there and witness sunset and sunrise on Bodie. In the morning we hiked into Bodie and got back late afternoon.

    Death Valley Birthday - Part 1 (3.5.20-3.6.20)

Beautiful pics. Thank you for sharing. BTW, Bodie is also worth seeing. There's a great camping spot that is in some brush on a hill about 15-20 minute walk from the main entrance.

    Album Waterfalls

I suppose a good motto would be 'when you see a placid river, realize that it started somewhere probably not placid'.
