I'm a noobie on here, but have done quite a few backpacking trips in the Uintas before. I'm looking to get to the desert over this Memorial Day weekend with my friend from Boston and my dog (9 month old English Springer Spaniel). My friend has backpacking experience as well, but hasn't spent time in the desert.
I was thinking of Death Hollow in Escalante, leaving Salt Lake City around 1pm on Thursday, and ending on Sunday (approx. 3 days). Do you think we will be able to get through the 20+ miles, or would we be too rushed. Is there a better place we should go? I'm not opposed to finding a nice spot and doing day hikes from there either. I mainly just want to be close to water and/or shade since it will be pretty hot. Also, let me know if you have any tips on additional gear we might want to bring.
Thanks!
