Deuel Creek South

Continuing on my trend of posting trip reports from some of my recent work hikes. This one turned out to be a real gem. It's located in the foothills above Centerville in Centerville Canyon. The trail follows an old broken pipeline before meeting up with Deuel Creek and following it about .7 miles before connecting with the Deuel Creek North trail. You can continue further up Centerville Canyon from that point or make a loop with the north trail, but from what I've read, it isn't nearly as good as the south trail. Great little hike for people in the area though. Lots of little waterfalls and one larger one that looks like a waterslide. Mostly easy with a few rocky scrambly sections. With all the shade and water, this one would be good even in the peak of summer. Good stuff. Trail guide coming soon.

I grew up hiking this canyon as it was in the figurative back yard. Lots of dry, dusty memories.

We usually went up the north side, beyond where the established trail now ends. There were some neat little overnight camp spots.

Lots of poison ivy along the creek.
There's some more fun stuff nearby too- an old mine just upstream from the dam, etc.

This was also my backyard growing up to. There is also a bigger waterfall up there. Maybe 20'? As of a year ago there was also a rope swing that was fun to play on.

Are you talking the water filled one right by little dam (the diversion station where they pump the water into the reservoir?) As kids we once tried to siphon drain that and explore it but that never worked. Without scuba equipment you can't go then a few more feet in.

Yeah- that's it! I think some of your dad's garden hoses are still there from that attempt.

I spent more time up this canyon from 8yo to 19yo than anywhere else. At least once a week. Love it!
