You guys keep a backpacking gear checklist in Microsoft Word you don't mind sharing?

I have one made up, I'd like to see how others do theirs...also might give me ideas...or see things being done in a better way.

Been at it so long nothing much changes on base weights

Mostly for September trips in Wy with lows near freezing. Appreciate any shakedown. Bob has some killer routes planned so I need to cut if I can.

Base is 16 lb. Start weight is usually 27-30 for 5 days. Swapping out to new ULA Circuit may save about a pound. Supposed to carry 30lb ok. Got forced to start carrying Mini 2 last year since I go off trail solo. Switch base to Smartwool 250 top + light fleece if highs are mostly low 50's.

I'll add these tiny details to the great lists already provided:

1) We bring plenty of duct tape by wrapping it around our Nalgenes. It has come in handy many times. We just leave it on there between trips and add to it when necessary; it's remarkable how well it stays sticky despite being washed numerous times.

2) If you're using just-add-water meals, a long-handled spoon is so much easier than a regular length one.

3) For your "shit kit" (thanks for the phrase @regehr) dog poop bags work great for packing out toilet paper - super lightweight, compress well - so much better than leaving TP behind.

4) Our friend uses lightweight hiking gloves (with fingers exposed - these or similar) to reduce chafing and sun exposure. We're going to try those on our next trip.

5) Extra carabiners and/or rubber twist ties (these or similar) often come in handy for various uses.

6) 1-2 bandanas are super helpful for lots of uses.

A+ to all of these (well, I've never tried the doggy bag once cause I don't have a dog, but the rest are all great. a lot of us wrap duct tape around our hiking poles instead of nalgenes

ages ago I went on a guided climbing trip and the only thing the guide made extra 100% sure we had before leaving was the long spoon

Only bring what you will use.....nothing extra. Generally If you dont use it one trip, leave it home the next.

I use the Circuit exclusively. Does well at least to 35lbs, and I have done more and it has been fine. Especially if your base is around 15 anyway.

I use these (on my third pair). Grip works great for holding fish too. Had a lot of interest from others on the trail.
