I might be taking a quick trip in the next few weeks where I am going through Dubois and want to camp nearby. The only place I have really been in that area is Brooks Lake. I am looking for some at large camping. Views would be good, shade could be great, water or hiking nearby would be great, but just some options.
North is fine, South into the N Winds is fine.

Double Cabin is a pretty nice spot... can find camping along the way or camp right up at Double Cabin if you don't mind some company. Bit of a drive to get up there, but worth it (just make sure the road isn't a muddy mess before you go).

There are some convenient spots at Ring Lake along Trail Lake Road south of Dubois. There are also a couple of spots along FR 516 northeast of Brooks Lake.

If you want remote feel plus scenery at camp, but don't want to repeat Brooks L, I like the @b.stark recommendation for Double Cabin. Long drive though. Once you get past the forest boundary like @Bob said there are places to pull off. Scenery doesn't really open up until Double Cabin. I've seen people set up outside the campground in the meadow. Another option up that way is to take the fork to Parque Ck road, past the entrance to the old T-Cross Ranch. It has a shorter entrance to the trail to 5 Pockets. Still one of my favorite places. Heap of griz ..
