One of my Wind River trips from the summer, Green River lakes to Green River Lakes loop. Weather was awesome, cloudy and rainy at times, lots of shifting dappled light. Creek crossings were all high, and slippery ! And lots of wild flowers in bloom in the meadows. I loved this NW corner of the Winds. I thought it was funny how all the CDT thru hikers always asked w/out fail, "You northbound ?". Meaning thru hiking the CDT. Like the only reason to be on that trail in that direction was for that. I always said yup, heading back to the truck. Which produced a puzzled look on their face for a moment then the light came on, I'm just backpacking a bit and happen to be a mere mortal on the prestige trail for a spell. Only wildlife I saw was birds and crickets unfortunately. Not even a deer. Met some very nice people though, quite a few in their 70's to 90's. I hope I am in that good of shape at that age to still be doing what I love. If not I better be dead. Being alive is not the same as living, and just being alive is not enough. Day 1 was pretty damn smoky from fires still and I was pretty bummed, but nighttime thunderstorms and wind cleared it all out and it was smoke free from there.
