Album Wildflowers

Lupine were often the show-stealers on last weeks trip to the Castle area, but the usual profuse variety of wildflowers were also found.

I came across this indian paintbrush (Castilleja sp.) yesterday with tiny bracts, new to me. So far unable to ID the species.

We caught the tail end of flower season two weeks ago while looking after lodge operations at Campbell Icefield.

Fading glory in the "Flower Power" meadows.

Anemone, gone to seed.

A pocket of paintbrush.

Colour in a landscape of rock and ice.

Some kind of saxifrage, profuse in damp treeline tundra.

Finding a niche to survive in.

Fire "weed".

Summer's over for this fireweed, though.

minor var. exilis? Ackerfield: "Annuals; bracts and calyx mostly green with just upper 1/3-1/4 red-tipped". Occurs in S Utah (usually near drainages/moist areas). If it's not linariifolia that's probably it...

Obviously different inflorescence morphology and family, but from a distance the size of the flowers resembled a Chrysothamnus. They were that small.
