I'm thinking about taking a Wilderness First Responder course. Has anyone taken it? Any suggestions on which program to take it with?

I found a fairly cheap one at the University of Utah...which is weird since the expensive NOLS class can receive course credit from a different department at U of U.
 
Widmedcenter.com, wms.org, firstaid-cpr-aed-utah.com, anactofcaring.com, mtnebotraining.com, a few I have bookmarked. I know nothing of how good or if they do Wilderness. Could call and ask ..... google is your friend. I'm AEMT so haven't worried about anything wilderness.
 
Wilderness Medicine Training Center is who I got mine through and they are very application based. Wildeeness Medicine Institute (the NOLS affliate) is very protocol-based and very legit. Those are the top two, in my opinion, for quality. Wilderness Medicine Association (that course you are seeing at the U is throigh them I believe) and it is a good program.
 
I was going to take the wilderness addon for EMT, but starting working summers with the USFS as a fireline EMT, on call. No time now. Don't remember what company I was looking at but the class was in Tetonia, WY for a week.
 
I have taken the certification through both NOLS and WMU. I prefer the NOLS course. I felt the NOLS course was more thorough and better organized. If it is your first time being certified I would take the NOLS course. It is worth the extra money. NOLS dills you to death, which is what you want. Once you have the basics down pat, then you can take your refreshers from WMU.
 
It's about half as expensive as the NOLS course. But in two years, if you want, you can go get the NOLS recertification for the same price as the WMU recertification.
 
If you have a medical back ground you can do the Advanced Wilderness Life Support course through the U of U.
I did it a couple years ago in Moab and it was a great class.
