Vintage!

Yeesssssss!

I know you are prepping your gear to use on an upcoming backcountry trip, but your post inspired me to dig out some of my vintage tents/pack.

I realize my "vintage" is not as old as your vintage, but to be fair you are a bit more vintage than I am. :)

Here we have a Dana Design Bridger pack, a Mountain Hardwear Skyview 3 tent, and a North Face Slickrock tent. If I remember correct the Skyview was a nice, spacious tent. . . we may have to use it when we are too old for the backcountry/demote ourselves to car camping.

I think your thread is a great idea for everyone to post pics of their vintage gear. . . I'm sure you ( @scatman ) could keep the thread going for quite some time with your inventory alone.

I wore all my vintage stuff out....... replaced with what I now have.

Scat........ That pack. The color has to go or you'll be hiking by yourself..... Guess SAR could find you easy from the helicopter..... :roflmao:

The Skyview-3! We could share a tent with all that room. :p

I'll be the hit of Yellowstone for five days Bob. Crowds may follow me through the Chain of Lakes. :D I'll be like the Pied Piper, leading all the tourons to their demise. o_O

I used a D3 for decades. I purchased it from a factory rep before they were even on the market. It originally had the "A" arm belt supports but I traded those out for the later style when they became available. I still have it and it's still serviceable but I like the Ospreys better these days.

Love it! I'd say it suits you Bob.

I may just have to find a headband/kerchief, some aviators, jeans, and a shirt with the largest set of lapels I can find to try and duplicate your look. Does that shirt have a pattern on it or is that just coloring in the photograph?

You did not ride a chopper with the stars/stripes fuel tank in that movie "Easy Rider" did you? :)

I've begun to pack the Jansport D2.

Taking the REI Half Dome 4 Plus as three of us will be sleeping in the same tent. A 20 degree down bag is tucked away in the sleeping bag compartment. The main upper compartment has my sleeping pad, clothes, pillow and dinner and breakfast. The right compartment has a towel, my cup, bowl, spoon, toothbrush and toothpaste in it. There is still plenty of room for more items which at some point will include my snacks. The left lengthy pocket is divided into to compartments: the top one holds my two Nalgene bottles perfectly while the bottom compartment has a can of fuel in it. There is still room for other items there too. On top, I will strap my second sleeping pad, a camp chair, a couple of dry bags and probably a camera lens - a Sigma 100-400mm zoom for all those sweet grizzly bear shots. :) There are also three separate compartments on the back of the pack. One has my rain cover for the pack. One will hold sunscreen and a ditty bag with odds and ends in it. And there should be plenty of room in the larger one for anything that I have currently forgotten.

Vintage!

A couple more items and you really are going to resemble Russell from the movie "UP." I think the color of the backpacks is even the same! :)
