Vandalism in Snow Canyon State Park

Total Bullshit! What is wrong with these idiots? Hopefully some of the names can be traced and found.
We just visited White Pocket Friday Sep 29. Busy up there..... but all was well.... and a great visit. 3 days later (on Monday) while at the Upper Buckskin TH, we ran into a BLM lady who told us about this crap that happened sometime during the weekend up at WP around Oct 1:

Apparently a smoke bomb of some type to get a video or photo effect. At first they thought it was spray paint. Amazing the selfish mentality of all these stupid people. Maybe they'll post some pictures and get caught. We can only hope.

uuuuuuuugggggggghhhhhhhh... This stuff is ridiculous. Like.... i've never understood why this was such a thing... admittedly most of the teens in st george (i know im one) are pretty narcissistic and have obscene amounts of pride. What's worse is that i can probably write a large essay on the ridiculousness of this from a practical standpoint. wastes money of the state when those resources could be given to improving facilities, damage to rock ultimately hurts the name and beauty of the park wasting money for said parks, and complaining about said loss is blatantly at the fault of these ignorant people et c et c. whatever, it happens, hopefully a solution can come up soon

I don't think all teenagers in STG are bad. I had two when I lived down there and neither of them would ever think of doing this. They have been taught to be good stewards of our natural resources. Besides I would kick their asses and disown them if they ever did anything like this.

There are some bad apples, mostly because they are not taught to be respectful by their parents.

I don't know what they gain by defacing nature in this manner.

Yeah i was making broad based claim. There are good and bad... idk i just feel with my experience its a gerneal "eh what you gonna do about it" mentality that prevails through many cliques. Hopefully they can track these people down, shouldn't be too hard.

I was camped at a BLM campground near Moab when a couple of young Canadian kids (maybe about 8 or 9) came up to me rather upset. They told me some other kids were killing lizards and shooting off paint bombs and asked me what they should do. I could see a bunch of teenagers up in the rocks above camp running around. I just happened to know the rangers and have their numbers handy. (That's another story.)

I made a phone call and the kids were soon being lectured by the BLM rangers, who also chewed out their parents, who were hanging out in the camp below the rocks. It was a group campsite, and there were probably at least a dozen teens there. The rangers made them clean up all the paint, even though it was water-based. Apparently they could only find one lizard that they had killed. I don't know if there were any tickets handed out, as I left before I could talk to anyone in the know.

Sorry @blueeyes I didn't mean to hijack your post or lessen these vandals deeds in Snow Canyon in anyway. I saw these pictures of WP and just had to get them out there.
I don't get how these people think. "We saw it already. Now we can let the world know that we were here!!" Take a freaking picture!!

I didn't feel hijacked! It applies. I saw that one too and it made me sad. Been fortunate to take both my teens out there. It pisses me off that people have to leave their idiot stamp.

It's not too difficult to get off. I have cleaned up tags like this in rock art areas (luckily it wasn't on the rock art itself). Mark off plus spray, which is biodegradable able, a pump sprayer, and brushes. Volunteers or the BLMers can do it right quick.

This is disgusting, frustrating and infuriating.

Snow Canyon is one of my favorites.

Yes there is a lot ugly to clean up there but what alternative is there? Better, more efficient, ways to clean up tags need to be developed. In the mean time, good will and training will do the job. Miscreants will always be created. You have to have a quick and efficient countervailing force to their misdeeds.
