The ice on Utah Lake is starting to melt, crack, and move a bit so the next time the wind starts to blow things may start stacking up. If you haven't been down to Utah Lake in the winter before once the ice starts to break up its by far the best time to shoot. Every night there seems to be a handful of us at one of the various harbors so if you're interested PM me and I can let you know where we we'll be shooting.

Here are a few shots of the ice I've taken of the last few years....

This is really awesome!

Way cool. I'm going to pass this along to a couple of my brothers that are in to photography. They would probably be interested in catching something like this.

Very nice. We caught the Dirty Devil breaking up one year, and that was incredible. From a quarter of a mile away, several times the ice sounded like a gunshot as it broke up.

I've always wanted to see the ice breaking up. What are some good locations to check it out? Does it depend on which way the wind is blowing as it's breaking up? I'm assuming it'll happen this week, eh?

Ice moved around a bit last weekend. The wind was blow to the south west so the ice have piles up on some west and south facing shores. The sun has been pretty harsh on it... so what not on the lake is melting fast.

And its done.....
Compared to the last few years it was a pretty weak breakup with no big ice flows or epic cracking

Here's the last of the ice on 3.17.2013 tucked into a corner at the Provo Harbor.
