Uintas Conditions 2015

Hiked the Lakes Trail from Bald Mountain Pass trailhead at 10,300' yesterday. 5 miles in 2-3" of snow and dry feet at the end. Feels late to be enjoying the high country this year but it sure was pretty.

Lakes are frozen mostly hard and I walked across one. The MLH road was clear and dry to at least Bald Mountain Pass and probably over to WY.

Dang! I was thinking about a Robbers Roost backpack this weekend, but now I'm somewhat seriously considering a late-season Uintas trip...

I'd thought about going up Sunday, then decided against it. Now I'm regretting that. Not too often you can hike that area in November.

Went up to Mirror Lake today. Tried to drive up to Crystal Lake TH, but stopped halfway uo the road beause we didn't want to risk getting the Civic stuck in the snow. We need to get a proper backcountry vehicle! Snow was about 5-8" deep, depending on drifts, and the lakes were frozen all the way across. The lady at the gas station in Kamas said they'll be closing the gate Monday.

I'll be surprised if they close the gate unless the storm Monday really dumps. It's rather concerning how shallow the snow is right now at the pass.image.jpeg

Dave! your shot posted above made the lead off picture to the weather on KSL tonight. Great! Well done. It looked even better on my big screen TV. I hope they put it in the calendar.

As an employee of the company, the pictures I send them aren't eligible for the contest. I just pass them along for use at the discretion of the weather department. Thanks for noticing though!
