Uinta trip - Priord to Dead horse Loop

I'm planning a solo trip in the Uintas for this summer and I'm thinking about doing a 4 day loop. The first day would be a hike into Lake Priord. Second day would be over to Dead horse lake with two passes. Third day would be up near Cataract Basin and the fourth day would be back to the beginning.

Is the second day too ambitious? I'm less concerned about my fitness and more concerned about hitting an afternoon thunderstorm near Dead horse pass. I'd be disappointed if I didn't get to stay at Dead Horse Lake due to thunderstorms by the pass.

Or were you planning on dropping over the spine into Rock Creek and back over to Dead Horse, skipping Allsop? That would be easier than the route above, but still pretty damn ambitious.

Yes, the plan is to drop into Rock Creek and then go back over dead horse. No plan to visit Allsop this trip. I think if I leave early enough I should be OK.

Another question, I'm considering taking my hammock/tarp for my shelter. Are there a decent amount of trees at Lake Priord? It's hard to tell from pictures I've seen.

There are plenty of trees.

The hours in the day might add up, but you have to keep in mind the monsoon factor up there. Most afternoons come with thunderstorms and so you need to be off of the passes for that. That can often make double pass days difficult.

Yeah, that's my biggest concern. I could always reverse the trip so that I ensure I make it to Deadhorse and then Priord would depend on the weather. From reports it seems the Deadhorse area is amazing. Priord looks pretty nice too though.

Figured I would tack on another question to my post - has anyone fished at Priord, Allsop, or Deadhorse? Any decent fishing at these lakes? Which had the best action?

Priord - pretty good for Tigers and Cutthroat
Allsop - pretty good for Cuthroat but all very small when I was there
Deadhorse - pretty much dead, but don't overlook Ejod.
