I want to drive mom thru here this summer, but wonder how bad the road really is (or isn't...). Extended slow crawling and bouncing/swaying are deal breakers I hope are not present. What is FR 123 really like ?

FR 123 is not bad at all. I drove it a few years back to hike Delano, and little did I know there was some sort of adventure race going on at the time. There were all kinds of cars on the road, including FWD passenger cars. This photo was taken at the standard Delano trailhead just below the pass at 10,973'. I followed a Subaru with Colorado plates most of the way up who was going way too slow for conditions and didn't realize what it means when one is being tailgated on a dirt road. A Honda Civic could make to this point (in dry conditions) if driving up from Beaver, but I don't have any experience with the road east of the pass.

You're fine. That road is decently high quality and graded from time to time. Have fun!
